Our Volunteers

Nest Stewards

Our Osprey Nest Stewards play a crucial role in tracking osprey nests and families. They have a unique opportunity to contribute valuable insights about their osprey families and document their

progress throughout the year, which helps support the overall Severn River watershed Osprey program.

We provide a data sheet linked to an Excel spreadsheet for regular nest updates. Additionally, we offer a template for stewards to capture more detailed information about their nests and birds. The observations and stories shared by our stewards are essential to our conservation efforts.

Boat Birders

Our Osprey Boat Birders play a vital role in tracking osprey nests and families. Each birder is assigned a sector within the watershed to visit regularly from March to September, recording osprey data that contributes to the overall Severn River watershed Osprey program.

We provide an Excel spreadsheet to input nest data on a regular basis. These boat trips are essential for gathering seasonal records across the watershed, helping us build a comprehensive understanding of osprey activity throughout the region.

Osprey Watchers

Our Osprey Watchers have the opportunity to join our survey trips and

assist with observing and counting osprey families. You will help collect data on nesting activities, from early spring nest building to female incubation behavior. Our observations continue through egg laying, chick emergence and young development.

As a volunteer, you’ll gain first-hand knowledge of how ospreys live, fish and feed their young in the nest. During these trips, the incredible osprey story will come to life, and all participants will become valuable partners in educating and engaging our neighbors and friends.

Adventure Cruises

Our Adventure Cruises offer a fun and educational way for students, families and nature lovers to experience the world of ospreys up close. These guided boat outings are designed to spark curiosity and provide a hands-on learning experience focused on osprey behavior, nest activity and life along the Severn River.

Participants join our team on the water to observe active nests, spot ospreys in flight and learn about the broader ecosystem that supports them. Each cruise is a chance to deepen your understanding of local wildlife while enjoying time on the river.

Whether you're a student eager to learn or a family looking for a unique outdoor adventure, our cruises are a great way to get involved.
