Osprey From Whitehall Bay to South America

Tracking Osprey with Satellite Transmitters

Beginning in 2000, Rob Bierregaard began tagging Ospreys with satellite transmitters to track their movements near nests and during their migrations to South America and back. While much of this research has been focused on Martha's Vineyard, he has also tagged Ospreys across a broad range, from South Carolina to Newfoundland, including several birds in the Chesapeake Bay. Woody, Hackett and Holly

We are providing fantastic insight from tracking Woody, Hackett and Holly from the Whitehall Basin during 2014 through 2017. The tracking maps are provided from Rob’s website as well as using the power of MOVEBANK, an online platform helping researchers and wildlife managers worldwide to share, analyze and archive animal tracking data. MOVEBANK is hosted by the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior in coordination with the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, the Ohio State University and the University of Konstanz located in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. MOVEBANK also partners with government agencies, universities and conservation organizations and has long-term funding through the Max Planck Society and the University of Konstanz.
